Google adds zing to Aussie iGoogle

Opinion and Analysis

Roxanne Elliott, director of CareforKids.com.au, noted that: “CareforKids.com.au was founded on the basis of making searching for child care a simple process.”

Elliot continued: “Our experience with parents is that they are time poor and with such an important decision to be made about the care of their child, they require a reliable and trustworthy tool to make the first step of engaging with a child care resource.

“The new iGoogle gadget will allow parents to search for and find a possible solution for their child care needs every time they go online, taking away some of the guesswork of securing effective care for their child."

iGoogle stats are as follows:

- More than half a million Australians get a feed from The Australian sport section onto their iGoogle page

- Around 66,000 Australians get a feed from ABC Breaking News onto their iGoogle page

- Around 400,000 Australians are using the Petrol Price tracker iGoogle gadget to scan local petrol prices from their desk before filling their next tank.

- The iGoogle themes designed by Australian artists and launched in April 2008 have been selected globally more than 380,000 times

- Australian-born photographer Anne Geddes' iGoogle theme appears on hundreds of thousands of iGoogle pages around the world

- Thousands of Australians are enjoying summer all year round, by keeping their favourite Western Australia beach scenes on their desktop

- There are 60,000 gadgets and 200,000 feeds in our public directory for users to add to their iGoogle page, and more than 2,000 iGoogle themes currently available.

Google also reminds us, no doubt keen to ensure we all remember its “Do No Evil” edict, that “iGoogle is an open system for developers to create both gadgets and themes.”
