ASUS CES showcase products on the way to Australia

Opinion and Analysis

It’s one thing to showcase some great new products at the Las Vegas CES, but the big question is when those products will hit local shores. ASUS has come forth with a pronouncement on when some of its products will go from showcase shelf space to the retail showroom floor.

Boasting of having showcased an “abundant array of products” at CES, focusing on the main theme of “Access Life with ASUS”, ASUS is doing the right thing by letting interested consumers know when these new products will actually be available to buy.

First on the list is the hard disk version of the super-thin S101 “fashion” Eee PC, which is unsurprisingly going to be called the S101H. It’s due in early February.

ASUS’s “Eee Top”, an all-in-one PC similar to the iMac and HP all-in-one models was unveiled at CES, and it’s also due in early February, but might arrive by the end of the month.

The highly anticipated Tablet PC versions of the Eee PC range, the T91 and the T101H are both due early in the “second half of 2009”, which should theoretically be just in time for the touch-enhanced Windows 7 OS, if Microsoft can get its act together in time.

Eee models that have a “TBA” (to be announced) timeframe include the Eee Keyboard and the Eee Stick. The Eee Keyboard  is a “a fully-functional PC and multi-media center enabled by ultra wideband HDMI which also serves as a wireless hub”, while the Eee Stick is a “Plug and Play full motion wireless gaming controller for the PC platform”.

The other Eee PC showcase was the Eee Top, a low power “desktop” style computer which ASUS says actually launched in mid 2007.

There’s also the S121 notebook, which is “similar” in style and design to the thin S101 netbook, but as a notebook will come with a more powerful processor and no doubt a higher price. This one’s due either at the end of Q1 or the beginning of Q2 this year.

At the performance end of the scale is the G71 Intel Quad Core-equipped “gaming notebook” which has “extreme graphics capabilities” and a host of other “high performance” parts. It launched late last year, but will be joined by the G50Vt gaming notebook that has a “TBA” launch date.

ASUS’s “Lamborghini” range of notebooks will be getting an upgrade early in the second half of 2009 with the “Lamborghini VX5”. Coming in yellow or black, it will clearly be the absolute performance flagship of the ASUS lineup.

Please read on to page 2 for the rest of the upcoming 2009 range from ASUS.
