After launching a new auction site earlier this year, Sensis and Telstra are ratcheting up the pressure against eBay with the launch of a new “mobile” shopping and auction site that also works from mobile phones, even delivering free SMS alerts on bids, outbids and auction wins. Can Sensis bounce the eBay behemoth?
Pouring on the competitive pressure against eBay, Sensis has added a raft of new “mobile” features to its Trading Post shopping and auction site, opening up the service to 4.4 million 3G handsets in Australia, all in an attempt to “pwn” eBay off its perch.
Trading Post says that its “existing buyers and sellers” will benefit from the introduction of the new mobile service “extends the online experience to the palm of their hand. The ability to bid, buy and track their Trading Post activity is all just a click away."
Launching “Trading Post Mobile”, the General Manager of Sensis Mobile, Amanda Brook, said “the business continues to focus on providing its products through a variety of channels so Australians can find a bargain with Trading Post anywhere and at anytime.
“With the new mobile search, bid and buy capability, Trading Post on your mobile offers real time access to all Trading Post inventory, including classifieds and auction ad listings. Australians can now find great bargains while they’re on the go, or without having to leave the comfort of their couch.
“Capitalising on the 4.4 million 3G handsets in use across Australia, Trading Post® Mobile extends our reach to an entirely new audience of people not currently using our weekly paper or visiting tradingpost.com.au.
“Sellers will also reap the benefits of the new Trading Post Mobile site, now their online advertisement is replicated on the mobile site. This means millions of potential customers are walking around with advertisements in their pocket via a medium that is experiencing exponential growth rates,” said Ms Brook.
Trading Post is heavily promoting the fact that, for the first time in Australia, “buyers and sellers can receive free SMS alerts informing them when their auction is ending, when they’ve won or been outbid, as well as being able to send any classified or auction ads to their mobile.”
