Internode starts 'œChumby contest' in Aussie content boost bid

Opinion and Analysis

Internode says that the competition closes on January 9, with the winners announced on January 16, 2009.

To be in the running, all you have to do is develop a localised Chumby widget to share with your fellow Australian Chumby fans. You can be as creative as you like, but remember that your Chumby widget has to have an Australian flavour.

There are 2 award categories:

Highest rated widget
The highest rated widget entered in the competition as seen on the Chumby Widget Guide

Simon Hackett's pick
The most creative Australian themed entry as judged by Simon Hackett, Internode's Managing Director

The Major Prize will be awarded to the Highest Rated Widget and consists of your very own chumby, a copy of Adobe Flash CS4 Professional and an $800 credit towards Internode services.

The consolation prize pack, which also includes a chumby and $200 credit towards Internode services, will be awarded to Simon Hackett's Pick.

As Internode reminded us on page 1, you don't need a real chumby to develop your widgets, it's easy - just create a virtual chumby through chumby.com after you register your account.

You can upload your widgets in private mode during development for testing, and when you're done, make it public to enter it into the competition.

You can even host your virtual chumby on your personal website or Facebook page if you want to get your friends involved.

Full details of how to enter the comp are available at Internode’s chumby competition page.

Here you’ll find additional details on where to quickly learn more about basic Flash development, as well as links to the chumby developer’s site at chumby.com and the “developing widgets for chumby on the Chumby Wiki”.

Internode are also letting entrants use the Internode logo if desired, although you will need to “contact Internode about arranging permission to do so, ahead of making any actual use of the logo. Under most circumstances, that permission is provided on request, subject to adding a note into the software stating that the logo is used with permission.”

APC Magazine's next printed issue (Dec 17th on sale date) will also have a quick guide to chumby widget development, Adobe is supplying the Flash CS4 prize pack, and Internode are supplying the chumbies and credit towards its services.
