Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Better aesthetics are promised, as are better ergonomics, speed and a recumbent driving position. Several R&D projects are also “slated to be launched in the areas of storage batteries, charge and speed controller, solar photovoltaics and hybrid transmission, in a network mode to make the future Soleckshaw, an engineering marvel.”
The technical features are as follows:
The power source is listed as both “solar and human”, while the drive is “motor-assisted pedal-driven”.
The electric motor is a “BLDC hub motor” running at 240-350 W and36 V with regenerative capabilities.
The transmission is a chain drive with differential and two ratios, while the braking happens over three wheels.
The seating capacity is two passengers (three if you include the driver), the payload is 200kg and the current speed limit is 15 kmph.
A solar-charged battery on a full charge has a range of 50-70 km (30-42 miles). Solar-power charging stations will be set up in centralised areas allowing inexpensive battery changes, as the Soleckshaws themselves have no solar panels on their roofs – or at least not yet in Mark I models.
The fully-charged solar battery will power the rickshaw for 50 to 70 kilometres (30 to 42 miles). Used batteries can be deposited at a centralised solar-powered charging station and replaced for a nominal fee.
Soleckshaws also come with FM radios and mobile phone charging power points for customers.
