Microsoft is also issuing a warning to check that your computer systems are set to deal with the early start of DST, despite Windows updates that should already have your computer systems updating at the correct time.
CRN has quoted Microsoft Australia’s Technical Audience Manager, Ben English saying:
“The downloadable software update will adjust products like Windows, Outlook, Windows Mobile and other time dependent systems, but it’s advisable to double check calendar appointments after the change to be on the safe side.”
Microsoft’s
DST site has information on helping you both manually and automatically update your Windows systems and software.
Information on updating your Windows Mobile smartphone is available
here.
Microsoft also advises: “If you have an IT environment that has servers and multiple machines, click
here for detailed information on updating these more complex environments. Alternatively, you may wish to engage a suitably qualified IT professional to carry out the required updates.”
So... forewarned as you now are, in a timely manner, about the impending changes to the timeline, you needed worry about wishing for the assistance of Dr Who to go back in time – or in this case, forwards.
Although we can be certain that despite all the warnings in the world, there will be people turning up to appointments, events and the airport an hour late on Sunday, all because their devices didn’t change automatically, while plenty of VCRs, microwave ovens and other non-connected timepieces will still need some good ol’ manual adjustment.
And with that, this article will now take a time-out, and clock off. Good luck on Sunday!
