Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Secondly, you’ll need a “valid credit card” with an Australian or NZ billing address, “as applicable”.
Thirdly, there’ll need to be some credit available in the card, so you can start buying!
In both countries, “catalog title purchases” of essentially “older”
movies start at $9.99 each (with all prices to come including GST).
That’s AUD $9.99 and NZD $9.99.
Recent releases are charged at $17.99, while the newest releases go for $24.99, in both currencies.
For movie rentals, it’s a slight different story – “library title
rentals”, i.e. “older” movies, go for AUD $3.99 and NZD $4.99, while
“new releases” go for AUD $5.99 and NZ $6.99.
High definition versions of movie rentals cost $1 extra in either currency, but require an Apple TV as noted on page 2.
Given that high definition versions of movies will mean larger file
sizes that chew up your download limit that much faster, unless you’re
with an ISP that doesn’t count iTunes downloads towards your download
limit, HD purchases will actually cost you twice.
But offering HD downloads likely costs Apple more too in license costs
and storage space, the fee is, for now, unavoidable - as is the
requirement for an Apple TV player hooked up to your widescreen HD
capable TV.
The iTunes movie store news helps to overshadow the launch of BigPond
music in DRM-free MP3 format, although one thing is for certain: the
iTunes movie store videos will certainly be encoded with Apple’s
Fairplay DRM.
The world might have gone DRM-free for music, but the battle to get our video in DRM-free format too has a very long way to go.
But before we get there, we need to have video sold to us in any
electronically downloadable format at all, and although BigPond has
done that for some time, Apple and iTunes are the big movers, even in
Australia.
The video download revolution... it’s must-see and it’s on now, on iTunes, at last!
