E3: Sony should announce cheaper PS3s for the world (and Australia!)

Opinion and Analysis

But Nintendo pulled off a miracle with a miraculous games console that has truly captured the public’s imagination – a public of all ages, not just those “core gamers” that Microsoft so recently spoke of.

Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony can’t rely on a similar miracle the next time – after all, the PS3’s power was meant to propel it to the top of the gaming charts, but the little ol’ Wii sits there instead. It must be driving Sony mad.

So, Sony. Fight back. Make your console better value. Games are damned expensive on any platform, it’s the price of entry that gets the people in. Blu-ray is great but it hasn't been anywhere near the game changer you wanted it to be, at least, not yet. Perhaps in killing HD DVD, but not in killing the Xbox 360!

Make your console better value, and you’ll have that many more people collecting trophies, playing Home (when you finally launch the damned thing), downloading movies (when you finally launch that on a worldwide basis, too) and buying all those juicy profitable games!!
