Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Naturally, Opera 9.5 beta 2 has such protection, and as you’d expect, it has been improved to keep “you even safer from fraudulent Web sites”. Opera’s fraud protection works with PhishTank’s community-powered anti-phishing database and with NetCraft’s phishing site database.
Although not strictly a new feature, Opera can also be controlled by voice, letting you browse the web with just a few spoken words, something that is pretty cool if you want to take advantage of the full power of today’s modern technology – without investing in a separate voice recognition program.
But a new feature is improved performance, which you’d expect any virtuoso to deliver. Opera says the new beta features “optimized performance on a number of fronts including substantial gains in the RSS feed reader, Quick Find, and start-up time on Macs”. Opera promises that “other subtle changes to performance” are also included within to “make Opera even faster and more protective of your system memory”.
There is a built-in BitTorrent client, for those who are inclined to download, although it can be easily disabled if you prefer to roll with your own independent download software.
But Opera’s inbuilt email client has been improved, featuring more responsiveness, “faster retrieval of your e-mails” and “quicker searching through archived mails.”
Those liking to transact online will also appreciate the fact Opera now delivers “Support for Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates Opera supports EV SSL certificates to provide additional assurance and trust for your online transactions.”
These, of course, are not the only features Opera provides. There are plenty more, including a ‘Speed Dial’ page which graphically lists your most favourite sites, a widget menu letting you extend Opera’s capabilities, a magic wand function that remembers passwords and other details for websites... and more besides.
The impressively named Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software, was naturally bursting with praise for his star performer, saying: “We’re pleased with the progress we’ve made towards the release of Opera 9.5. We’ve had contributions from millions of people who use Opera. Their suggestions — for improving features, for crushing bugs — have helped reach this milestone. We welcome their continued candour, suggestions and feedback as we improve Opera 9.5 ahead of its final release."
So... amidst all the fanfare for Firefox and the siren song of Sarafi... why not give Opera a go? You can use it not just on your PC, but your Mac, Linux, your phone, your Nintendo Wii and even the Nintendo DS.
