Opinion and Analysis

Fuji Xerox say that they are “Committed to Zero to Landfill”.

Just like computer and mobile phone manufacturers are seeing the light in terms of recycling, printer manufacturers have seen it too.

Fuji Xerox say that one part of its “environmental management philosophy to reduce waste to landfill” seems them collecting used printer cartridges and used printers for recycling.

Corporate customers can dispose of used printer cartridges in a Cartridge Recovery Box collected by Fuji Xerox.  Cartridges can also be recycled through the Cartridges 4 PlanetArk collection boxes, something I’ve seen consumers do at PlanetArk collection boxes in Australia Post outlets, for example.

In terms of recycling actual printers, Fuji Xerox collects used printers are collected through a “take back program” in all states for corporate customers.  Printers that have reached the end of their lifecycle can be sent to Fuji Xerox Printers for recycling.  All trade-in printers and service parts are also recycled as part of Fuji Xerox Printers commitment to reduce waste to landfill.

I’d have to check, but I’d be surprised if other printer manufacturers aren’t doing this too, especially in the environmentally aware age we all now live in.

For small businesses and consumers, Fuji Xerox Printers leverages on “Byteback” in Victoria, a drop off program for residents and small business owners who want to dispose of unwanted, old and unused computers in a safe and environmentally responsible way.  Fuji Xerox says they’re a “founding member of Byteback which is operated by Sustainability Victoria.”

Johnson added, “Fuji Xerox Printers is committed to environmental sustainability by applying the cradle-to-grave philosophy in our product lifecycle.  By putting recycling programs in place to ensure that used cartridges, old printers and service parts are collected, recycled or treated to minimise the impact on the environment.”

So, what are some of Fuji Xerox’s new printers? Please read onto page 3.
