The Government has offered Australia's three mobile operators, and vividwireless, renewal of their existing spectrum allocated on 15 year licences in the late 90s and early 2000s at set prices, while the Government expects to rake in $3 billion.
Tracks purchased can also be transferred via your PC to compatible Nokia devices. The music collection can then simply be synchronised between the PC and a mobile using Windows Media Player 11.
All music on the Nokia Music Store can be purchased through a variety of payment options, including credit cards and pre-paid vouchers.
Individual tracks will cost A$1.70 per track and albums from A$17.00. The Nokia Music Store will also offer a monthly subscription for PC users to stream an unlimited number of full length tracks for A$10.00 per month.
So, can Nokia turn it up to 11? Well, they’ll need to get the last major label, Warner Music, signed up to the Nokia Music Store first, as well as getting the majors delivering DRM-free versions of their tracks, too.
A price drop closer to the US price per track (US 99c) as charged by iTunes wouldn’t hurt either, but Nokia is likely restrained by local music label pricing on that one.
Also exploring other content, such as music videos, and then the natural follow on of TV shows and even movies would be great additions to Nokia’s online content store, too.
But it’s a great – if not late – start, and Nokia not only have the wherewithal to make the Music Store an integral part of virtually every future Nokia phone, but the global standing to push the service at least as hard as Apple pushes iTunes and to get other types of content onboard.
