Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
This lets you take advantage of the Aussie dollar’s strength against the ever weakening US greenback, although going down that route means if anything goes wrong, you’ll need PriceUSA’s help to get it back to the US for repairs, and wait for your piece of consumer electronics to make the round trip.
Still, it’s help that PriceUSA say they are willing to offer, or so their site says.
If you do go down the US route, instead of buying locally, it will take some money out of the local economy. But it’s your money, and you have the right to spend it any way you choose.
The launch of the Windows XP equipped Eee PC also came a few weeks before Microsoft made a decision to extend the availability of Windows XP until June 30, 2010, as reported by iTWire colleague Stephen Withers in his article “Windows XP reprieved until 2010, maybe later”.
Retail and OEM sales of Windows XP will continue until June 30, 2008. After that, only ULCPC (ultra low cost PC) manufacturers, such as ASUS and undoubtedly others, will be officially allowed to sell Windows XP – everyone else is expected to go to Windows Vista Basic or better.
Another sub-notebook maker trying to get some of the ASUS Eee PC goodness is HP, who have just launched the HP 3122 Mini-Note.
It’s a sub-notebook that starts at US $499, but comes with a larger screen – 8.9-inches at 1280x768 resolution, compared with the Eee PC’s 7-inch screen with 800x400 resolution.
It also comes with SuSE Linux or Windows Vista options, and has a more powerful processor than the Eee PC.
But ASUS surely won’t rest on their laurels. Reports indicate ASUS is preparing to release more advanced Eee PCs, but whether they’ll be able to keep the prices similar to the original Eee PC or not at launch is another question.
The Eee PC in either OS flavour is still a great buy, and is most deserving of its rock-star status. But there’s tons more choice on the way – the ultra low cost PC revolution has only just begun!
