Windows Server 2008 in ‘workstation’ mode – a suitable Vista replacement?

Opinion and Analysis

Kennedy also notes that “the really bizarre aspect to my "Workstation" 2008 experience is that, from a technical standpoint, it doesn't make sense - or at least, it shouldn't. With the same kernel (as of Vista SP1), the OSes should in fact behave similarly.”

So, while the debate rages over just how much better Windows Server 2008 is at delivering a better ‘workstation’ desktop OS experience than Vista SP1, Microsoft has probably already confirmed internally where Windows Server 2008 is indeed faster than Vista SP1.

If so, perhaps we might see a Vista SP2 speed update (or individual speed updates before any new service pack) appear sooner rather than later, giving long-suffering Vista users with a ‘need for speed’, the speed they need!
