General consumers running Vista are still advised by us to simply wait until mid-March for the SP1 download to become available, so as to give plenty of time for Microsoft, MSDN users and TechNet users to find out if there are any more SP1 surprises.
As we’ve said before, if your Vista system is running smoothly, why risk running SP1 before we truly know it’s ready, no matter what Microsoft says about ‘SP1’ being final?
After all, a couple of pre-SP1 updates are already being downloaded to most Vista users computers’ through the Windows Update service. Although unlikely, there could well be more, and while tech-savvy IT professionals might have the time and patience to fix computers affected by any SP1 problems, most general consumers do not.
Still, SP1 is closer than it has ever been, and when it finally gets here for real, I for one, will be very happy the SP1 milestone has finally come and gone, as Microsoft presumably continues working not only on Vista’s successor, Windows 7, but also starts working on the next service pack for Vista... SP2.
