Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
As Microsoft has previously advised, users of pirate copies of Vista will discover, upon updating to SP1, that SP1 will notify users their version of Vista is unlicensed and will place those users into a ‘reduced functionality mode’ that allows users to continue using Vista, but with all of Vista’s bells and whistles turned off.
Some would jokingly say that would actually improve Vista, while others wouldn’t be joking - but at least Microsoft ditched the ‘reduced functionality mode’ that effectively locked users out of their computers, a genuine concern especially with Vista’s ‘Windows Genuine Advantage’ tagged some computers running a genuine copy of Vista as running non-genuine versions.
Given that Vista SP1 includes all previously released updates, existing Vista users already have many of SP1’s chunks in their system, and daily use of Vista has certainly seen an improved experience especially after various ‘reliability and performance updates’ have been applied.
The Vista experience should improve even further once SP1 actually lands on users’ machines, but it’s an easy prediction to say that things will still go wrong for some.
Updating software, especially with service packs, on the vast array of hardware out there, will always cause someone an issue, no matter how much beta testing Microsoft has previously undertaken.
But with so many people having experienced Vista issues in the past, let’s hope that SP1 rolls out smoothly for all those Vista users out there, and if there are issues, that Microsoft fixes them ASAP.
Of course, rushing out to install a new service pack on day one isn't always the best idea either. If your computer is running fine right now, instead of joining the SP1-rush when it releases, it'd be wiser to see what the reviewers say first.
So, until Microsoft’s official SP1 announcement, whenever that will be, we still don’t know whether Feb 4th 2008 truly is Vista SP1 day, or if Microsoft has temporarily put SP1 on the backburner as it deals with the so-called hostile Yahoo takeover bid.
But if it’s not, there’s less than two months in Q1 2008 left, meaning SP1 will be here very soon whatever happens. Now, when was Vista SP2 scheduled for again?
