Microsoft's Photosynth preview: old news

There's been numerous reports today about Microsoft launching a preview of a new photo-compilation system, Photosynth, but this has been available since August, as iTWire reported.
I also commented then  and last week when Microsoft launched Virtual Earth,  how  Photosynth was a natural fit  with software, like Virtual Earth or Google Earth that allows you to zoom in and view locations around the globe. I eagerly await further developments.
