If I hear "HSDPA will deliver 14.4Mbps" one more time I shall scream.

Opinion and Analysis

And don't forget that the major beneficiaries of Telstra's new 3G network are supposed to be rural Australians, many of whom are served by CDMA cells of very considerable size.

Well, here's another fact about HSDPA: "The maximum bandwidth that can be achieved with HSDPA depends greatly on cell size... For a large cell with a diverse range of users, the peak aggregate data rate will be in the range of 1 to 1.5Mbps."

The author adds that "In principle, a picocell could see data rates of 8Mbps or more." That means in the CBD: picocells are those created by small antennas on the sides buildings and suchlike.

So you see, saying that HSDPA will deliver 14.4Mbps is not wrong but such a gross simplification as to be extremely misleading. Can I scream now?
