Someone's taking pot shots at the Sydney Apple Store

Last year Apple was forced to replace one of the massive plates of glass in its flagship George Street store in Sydney after it was hit by what was believed to be a bullet. It has happened again, or has it?

When this first happened last October the Sydney Morning Herald reported that replacing the 13 metre high three metre wide pane of glass had cost Apple around $1m

ITNews journo Ry Crozier was on hand to photograph and report the whole lengthy and complex replacement process, in some detail. Reports suggested the damage had been caused by a projectile speculated variously has having been a bullet or a ball bearing.

I walked past the store recently and lo and behold it had happened again. A small object could be seen embedded in one of the panes, which was very extensively cracked. Given that it must have hit the glass at great velocity to achieve this penetration, it could only have been a bullet.

If there was any danger of it collapsing, no precautions were being taken.

I asked Apple for more information and when a replacement was planned. The answer: "We have no further information on this."

So either: I imagined the whole thing; Apple is unaware of it; Apple is denying any knowledge of it; Apple has already managed to replace the broken pane without news getting out.
