The device is driven by security technologies from BSecure Technologies and one of the industry's most successful and best known anti-virus, anti-spyware software engines: that from McAfee.
Users can choose between 34 filtering categories, with individual site block and unblock features. The web-based control centre allows selective filtering of peer-to-peer (P2P) applications, instant messaging (IM) and other programs (IRC, FTP, etc.). Parents can also set the access privileges for individual family members.
And if you want to control how much time your kids spend on the net, the SecureSpot will even keep track of your family's computer and Internet usage by providing a detailed report that breaks down how long each user has spent on the machine and when they have been using it.
The price of $239 includes one year of updates. Annual updates are purchased via the D-Link Web site direct from the US in $US79.99 per year. Out of the box the device and the annual update, support up to four PCs but and you can expand the number of PCs supported to 10 by paying $US19.99 per PC per year, also online.
