Stream live TV to iPhone with updated EyeTV app

Opinion and Analysis

Now you see it, now you don't, now you do: 3G TV streaming returns to EyeTV for iPhone.

Version 3.2 of Elgato's well-regarded EyeTV TV software for Mac OS X introduced the ability to stream live or recorded shows to an iPhone via the 3G network.

Streaming was also supported via Wi-Fi to iPhones and iPod touches.

But shortly after the debut of EyeTV 3.2 and the corresponding EyeTV App, Elgato officials said "Some test code that enabled live TV streaming over the cellular network was accidentally left in the the EyeTV App. Apple requested that we remove the code since their agreement with AT&T does not allow redirecting TV signals over the cellular network."

As I previously wrote, Apple's attitude seemed to be that if US users couldn't have the app, the rest of us could do without it too.

Elgato came up with a work-around in the form of a web app that streamed TV  from EyeTV 3.3 to the iPhone's Safari browser.

But Apple changed the rules - please read on.
