EyeTV app update fixes bugs, kills desirable (if undocumented) feature

Opinion and Analysis

An Elgato spokesperson told iTWire "Apple apparently has a one size fits all approach to the App Store, so if it says no in the US, it says no everywhere. That's as I understand it at least."

iTWire asked Apple Australia if the app would still be available here (in its original form), and if not, which carrier(s) objected to it. No reply was forthcoming.

Curiously, the 1.0 version did reappear in the App Store before being replaced last night with EyeTV for iPhone 1.0.1.

Apart from preventing live streaming over 3G, version 1.0.1 delivers various bug fixes and improvements.

Notably, it fixes a crash that could occur after zooming and changing channels, and another that could occur when scrolling the RPG past midnight.

The app is now compatible with the DVB and ATSC over-the-air EPGs, not just those provided by IceTV and similar services. (That was a particularly contentious issue among some purchasers.)

EyeTV for iPhone 1.0.1 costs $A5.99/$US4.99. It requires EyeTV 3.2 or higher, and iPhone OS 3.0 or higher (3.1.2 recommended).
