Aussies going underprotected online, claims security vendor

Opinion and Analysis

So apparent ignorance of security software doesn't mean someone isn't adequately protected.

Nor would I be too concerned by the finding that "35% of respondents did not update their security software regularly".

If set up appropriately, most security products update automatically and more or less silently, so the non-technical user needn't be aware that updates are occurring.

Just because 10% said they never updated, that doesn't mean their computers aren't kept up to date in this regard.

What I do find worrying is that 31% of Australians apparently use the same password across all web sites, with 58% only using a couple of passwords.

They really should be using strong and unique passwords for every site where real value is concerned - banking, insurance, share trading, and so on.

What about other sites? And are Aussies really ignoring warnings from their security software? See page 3.
