Office 2008 SP2: tweaks, fixes and a new Connection

Opinion and Analysis

Other changes include the return of the section indicator to the status bar, improved copying of numbered lists between documents, and improvements in the handling of Japanese and Korean characters.

Compatibility with Word 2007 documents has been improved, and Word now works better with the Spell Catcher X spellchecker, auto-correction and 'shorthand' utility.

Entourage gets the least attention. The new features are support for proxy auto-configuration files, and automatic configuration of MobileMe and Windows Live Hotmail accounts. Useful, but not exactly exciting.

The changes are an updated junk mail filter (the one for Windows Mail is updated monthly, so why don't Office for Mac users get the same treatment?) and a fix for an issue that could cause encrypted or signed messages to be dropped at the receiving end without warning.

I'm still waiting for Entourage to reopen all windows on relaunch.

As usual with service packs, Office 2008 SP2 includes the various changes that were released following the 12.1.0 update.

It's a 297M download from Microsoft's Mactopia site or via Microsoft AutoUpdate.
