Kyle, Jackie O "Twitter Wankers" says Twitter rent-a-crowd man

Opinion and Analysis

Sydney radio presenters Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O have been branded "Twitter wankers" by someone that sells Twitter followers. Pot, meet kettle?

According to uSocial.net's Leon Hill, Kyle and Jackie are automatically creating Twitter accounts to follow theirs.

"I've seen this stuff before and it's obvious they're using a script or computer program to create accounts and then follow their own. It's blatant spam and shows they're nothing but Twitter wankers."

Given that uSocial.net describes its business as "artificial popularity services", that seems a bit rich.

Hill also said "It was immediately apparent that most of the people following their account were fake.

"Almost none have photos, little to no updates and the ones that were updating were doing so with either their name, or an illegible grouping of letters."

Having no photo and making few updates (or none at all) is hardly a sign of a fake account. Come to think of it, that description matches my Twitter account. I'd be amazed if there aren't a stack of people that follow others without tweeting themselves.

But I would agree that accounts that tweet random text are suspicious.

A recently added part of uSocial.net's business is the supply of Twitter followers. It claims to be able to deliver 100,000 followers for $A3479.

uSocial.net's terms of service refer to Queensland law, but the name does not appear to match any registered company or business name in Australia. There is no physical address or phone number on the uSocial.net site, no White Pages listing for the name, and the domain was registered using a nominee service.

Unusually, uSocial.net's media releases contain no contact details other than an email address.
