"The App Store has fueled a surge in iPhone and iPod touch popularity, while Apple's latest Mac computers have continued to receive design and customer service accolades.
"The 2010 International CES is a unique opportunity for Apple's leading third-party vendors to show off their latest and greatest products on a truly world-class stage," added Horowitz.
Macworld Expo still has a strong conference program, with streams aimed at general users as well as corporate IT professionals. But given the cost of exhibition space and the opportunity costs of being away from the business, it seems likely that the two shows will be an 'either/or' decision for most potential exhibitors.
But at this stage, the announced iLounge Pavilion exhibitors are focused more on the iPod and iPhone than the Mac.
So unless CES manages to attract some serious players from the Mac market that defect from Macworld, the IDG-organised event might seem reasonably safe. But any significant erosion of the exhibitor base - even one that affects a single segment - could badly affect the Expo's budget.
CES 2010 is scheduled for January 7-10 in Las Vegas.
Macworld Expo 2010 is scheduled for February 9-13 in San Francisco.
