CES takes aim at Macworld Expo

A major trade show seems to be taking advantage of Apple's pull-out from Macworld Expo and visitor disquiet over the event's changed timing.

Shortly before Macworld Expo 2009, Apple announced that it would be its final appearance. Then the organisers moved the 2010 Expo from the traditional January dates to February.

That caused disquiet, especially among overseas visitors to Macworld who were in the habit of attending both it and the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in one trip.

The Consumer Electronics Association - the organisers of CES - responded by announcing the iLounge Pavilion, an area for exhibitors of iPod, iPhone and Mac related products.

4,000 square feet was originally allotted to the iLounge Pavilion, but that was more than quadrupled less than two weeks later.

"We have received an incredible response from companies interested in exhibiting in the iLounge Pavilion at the 2010 International CES," Karen Chupka, the CEA's senior vice president for events and conferences, said at the time.

Yesterday, the CEA announced that the pavilion had been expanded to 25,000 square feet.

"The past year has been truly amazing for Apple fans," said Jeremy Horwitz, Editor-in-Chief of iLounge.com, co-sponsor of the iLounge Pavilion.
