The real advantage will come following the arrival of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Due in the coming months, Snow Leopard will include OpenCL, a non Apple specific technology that makes it easy for developers to take advantage of the computational power of modern graphics chips so that more calculations can be performed at the same time by a program.
If you plan to run an external display, note that the mini-DVI connector has been replaced with a Mini DisplayPort right across the iMac range.
