The news comes alongside fresh clues that Apple's iMac line will soon be updated.

New iMacs have been expected for some time, as the last speed bump appeared in April 2008.

AppleInsider has noted that various US resellers - including Amazon - have no supplies of the 3.06GHz iMac, and lead times have stretched for delivery from the Apple Store.

The US Apple Store currently quotes shipping in 2-4 days, while Australian customers are given an estimated shipping time of three business days. Other configurations ship within 24 hours.

A late March debut for new Mac hardware has been rumoured.

The tip is that this will include new iMac and possibly Mac mini configurations.
