$2.5 million iPhone the King of bling?

Opinion and Analysis

Bejewelled iPhone comes with $US2.5 million price tag: is it the king of bling or just crassly conspicuous consumption?

An Austrian jeweller has created an extremely limited edition customised iPhone loaded with gold and diamonds.

The Kings Button by Peter Aloisson is a 3G iPhone modified with a 6.6 carat diamond as the home button.

Other changes include case parts made from 18 carat gold and decorated with 138 diamonds.

Is this a stupid idea?

I suspect that anyone that buys a Kings Button doesn't care what you or I think of them.

And Aloisson will probably receive $US2.5 million worth of publicity just for having the idea.

At least the €1.79 million price tag includes delivery and insurance - even if VAT or other taxes and duties are extra.
