The Photos pane in the Media Browser takes about the same amount of time to initialise, and coincidentally my iPhoto library contains a similar number of items as my iPhoto library.
The only workaround I've discovered so far is to leave the Media Browser on the Movies tab when I leave Magic DVD. That way, it's my empty and therefore instantly-loading iMovie '08 library that's displayed next time I use Magic DVD.
Of course, that doesn't help when I want to include photos or music in an iDVD Magic DVD, but it is an improvement.
So does the latest version of the Media Browser fix this issue? I won't know until I have time to install it, because Apple steadfastly refuses to provide proper release notes.
Anyway, Apple recommends the update for all users of Aperture, iLife 08, iWork 08 and Mac OS X 10.5.6.
The story is much the same for iDVD 7.0.3: "This update improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues."
Well, improved stability is good, but I don't recall ever noticing any particular lack of stability in the DVD authoring program from Apple's iLife 08 suite.
The updates are available via Software Update or
Apple Support Downloads.
