Mac OS X 10.5.6 almost done?

Opinion and Analysis

We've heard this claim before, but it looks like Mac OS X 10.5.6 may be close to completion.

Apple released Mac OS X 10.5.6 build 9G55 to developers, and once again the seed notes have been leaked by Portuguese-language web site HMBT.

According to the text published by HMBT, Apple says there are no known issues in build 9G55.

Developers have been asked to focus their testing on a wide range of areas (if such a thing is possible) from the Accounts preference pane to xnu, and from Address Book to webdavfs.

Major components on the list include Automator, Bluetooth, several of the Core frameworks, graphics drivers, networking (including AirPort), printing, Safari, and Time Machine.

It sounds as if previous issues with synchronisation, Time Machine and non-English character sets in Mail have been fixed.

According to some reports, developer seeds of both the regular and server versions of Mac OS X 10.5.6 now carry the same build number, usually an indication that their release is not far away.

But then we thought that 10.5.6 was just around the corner a month ago.
