Picasa Uploader reverses direction

Opinion and Analysis

If you use Picasa as a way of making an off-site backup of your photos as well as sharing them with others, the latest version of the Picasa Web Albums Uploader makes recovery easier.

Picasa Web Albums Uploader's primary function is to create web albums from photos and videos stored on a Mac.

(A full Mac version of the Picasa photo management, editing and sharing application is rumoured to be in development deep in the bowels of Google.)

But version 1.3 of the Uploader has the ability to download albums into new folders on a destination Mac.

Once they've been received, the photos can be imported into iPhoto or another photo-management application. Or, if you prefer, simply left as files in one or more folders.

Picasa Web Albums Uploader comes with an iPhoto plug-in allowing photos and videos to be uploaded directly from iPhoto to Picasa Web Albums.
