Apple tweaks RAW compatibility for Aperture and iPhoto

Opinion and Analysis

A software update from Apple provides support for RAW files from additional digital cameras. You may benefit from the update even if you're shooting RAW with an existing camera.

Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.3 for Aperture 2 and iPhoto '08 adds support for the Canon EOS 50D, Nikon D90, Sony DSLR-A900 and Nikon Coolpix P6000.

According to Apple's brief description, the update also "addresses issues related to specific cameras and overall stability," so it may be worth installing even if you don't have one of the newly supported cameras.

But don't begin installing it if you're in a hurry: the updater requires a restart.

Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.3 is available via Software Update or Apple Downloads.
