A multi-touch trackpad also seems a fairly safe bet. Apple appears to see this style of operation as the way ahead, if only because it works equally well on handheld devices (ie, the iPod touch and iPhone), conventional notebooks, and the much-speculated-upon Mac tablet.

What about the iMac and Mac Pro? My guess - and that's all it is - is that with the possible exception of minor speed bumps, we won't see updates to the desktop systems before January's Macworld Expo.

If the new iPods aren't enough to guarantee a busy holiday shopping period for Apple resellers and Apple Stores around the world, new MacBooks are sure to provide the icing on the cake.
