That's just a little more than a high-end MacBook configuration, reflecting the extra cost and desirability of the multitouch screen, while leaving Apple with the opportunity to upsell with extra memory and storage, as well as MacBook touch specific options such as Gizmodo's desk stand.

Bear in mind that multi-touch panels are not prohibitively expensive - recently announced technology makes them only around 20 percent more pricey than normal LCD screens, even at desktop monitor sizes.

Anyway, to rework the old song, "All I want for Christmas is a MacBook touch/A MacBook touch/A MacBook touch./All I want for Christmas is a MacBook touch/So I can email you a Merry Christmas!"
