Tapping search dollars with InstallShield

Opinion and Analysis

Windows developers: looking for extra revenue? InstallShield makes it simple to bundle the Yahoo! Toolbar with your product.

A multi-year agreement between Acresso Software and Yahoo! allows the 71,000-plus users of InstallShield Professional and Premier any easy way to receive revenue from Yahoo! when their customers search with the toolbar.

The toolbar support is not part of the Express edition.

"InstallShield is the de facto standard for authoring installs - from the top 100 software producers in the world to the individual developer," said Mark Bishof, CEO of Acresso Software.

"By simplifying the addition of Yahoo! Toolbar into their installs, software producers of any size can bring Yahoo!'s powerful search functionality to their end-users while opening up brand new revenue opportunities," he added.

Competition in the search market is hotting up as Yahoo! and Microsoft's Live Search try various methods to claw back ground from Google.

"With InstallShield being deployed on more than 500 million PCs worldwide, this partnership gives us the ability to extend our reach with Yahoo! Toolbar and become the starting point for InstallShield's global community," said Vish Makhijani, general manager and senior vice president, Yahoo! Search.

THe announcement does leave some unanswered questions, so please read on.
