Wouldn't it be more appropriate for MySpace to be awarded damages to cover only the actual costs incurred?

That would probably a few dollars for delivering the messages, a few thousand for complaint handling, and a few million for lawyers' fees.

Any punitive component should go either to the recipients or the public purse.

If we know 735,925 messages were sent, I'm guessing we also know who received them.

Or the government could upgrade the IT facilities in a fair few schools with over $200 million.
