TV shows that attracted substantial criticism for their depictions of sex and violence and the use of coarse language are now available from the iTunes Store. Are your favourites among them?
HBO is the latest program provider to team with Apple's online media store. Popular and critically acclaimed series including The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Rome.
Both The Sopranos and Sex and the City were criticised for the use of "the c word", yet both shows had legions of dedicated fans. The Sopranos and Rome were also slated for their gory depictions of violence.
The HBO content currently only available in the US. Sex and the City, The Wire and Flight of the Conchords cost $US1.99 per episode, while The Sopranos, Deadwood and Rome are $US2.99 per episode.
How does that compare with buying the programs on DVD? The going price for Sopranos DVDs is around $US40 per series ($US3 per episode), so that's about even, though I'd rather have the discs. Sex and the City DVDs work out at between $US1 and $US2 per episode depending on the season, so the discs seem the better buy.
The per-episode price still applies even when you buy complete seasons from the iTunes Store.
