Opinion and Analysis

Our Xbox console has become somewhat unreliable lately both for game playing and for playing DVDs. Not being a gamer but with children who are, I figured that we could kill two birds with one stone and get another DVD player and console combo.
So after looking around, it turns out we
figured out that there is really only one choice, the Sony PlayStation
2.
Yes, we all knew that the Xbox 360 had sharper graphics for games – the
store had a PS2 demo machine right next to an Xbox 360 console. We also
don’t need to tell you which console had the state of the art hi-res
LCD monitor attached and which had the fuzzy old CRT monitor to further
accentuate the difference.
However, the FIFA soccer game on the PS2 looked more interesting to the
kids than the racing simulator on the Xbox 360 anyway, so they were
happy to give it a tryout and they liked it.
We also knew that some (not all) of the Xbox games that we had could
only be played on the Xbox 360 Pro – but not the Core model without the
hard drive.
So our choices were to pay AUD$649 for the Xbox 360, AUD$499 for the
Xbox 360 Core system, with no backward compatibility, or AUD$188 for
the PS2. In the US, the prices are $399, $299 and $129 respectively.
To be fair, the Xbox 360 platform possesses online capabilities not present in PS2.
