Opinion and Analysis

As November and Vista's scheduled release to the business market approaches, I get the distinct feeling that for Microsoft everything is coming to a head.
November is going to be a big month for
Microsoft. Planned or not, the Vista release coincides with the release
of other totally unrelated and untested in the market Microsoft
products, such as the Zune player and the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive.
Vista has been a long time coming and, assuming that feedback to the
latest build of release candidate 1 is all OK, what will happen when
the new operating system hits the market is still far from clear.
Since improved security has been a major foundation and key selling
point of the Vista platform, Microsoft is expected to deliver rock
solid security in spades. Yet somehow the public remains unconvinced.
A couple of months ago, Microsoft's August Patch Tuesday unveiled more
than just a big bunch of critical security flaws affecting Windows XP
and other current generation MIcrosoft software. August 10 also
revealed two critical security bugs in the Windows Vista Beta being
tested at the time.
