These days $900 is not
exactly a fortune but it does come in handy if you want to buy cheap
technology or enough food to keep your family's bellies full. Here in
Australia, many families are about to receive another Government
handout of AUD$900. What can they buy that will benefit them most?
This is of course a loaded question. Everyone knows that basic
needs come first. Shelter, food and clothes come way before technology.
However,
if we assume that in most working families the basic needs are taken
care of (a big assumption I know), So the Government wants you to spend
(blow?) your cash gift, what should you buy?
If you were to
believe online retailer Kogan, the best thing to blow your $900 on is a
37 inch LCD TV, cleverly named the Kevin37, after Australian Prime
Minister Kevin Rudd.
However, if you want to spend your money on
electronics, why not buy something that will benefit your family rather
than help them to turn into lounge lizard zombies.
For a start
if you have school age kids, do you think they might benefit from
having at least one Internet connected computer in your house? After
all, practically every school these days in Australian urban areas
assumes that their students have access to a computer outside of school
hours.
If you were to buy a computer, what sort could you buy
for $900. Well quite a good one actually. There are any number of quite
powerful white box desktop Windows PCs that you could get. What else?
