Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
We pointed out to the PR rep that this didn’t really make any sense.
Why would Asustek recommend that the Linux model be sold for $50 more
in Australia if both models were selling for the same price overseas?
The PR rep responded that it was only a recommended retail price. It is up to retailers to charge what they like.
Of course that begs the question. If the recommended retail prices
differ, does that mean the wholesale price for retailers also differs?
One would expect that retailers would get the Windows version cheaper
than the Linux version, assuming a similar margin on sales.
We rang back the PR rep and left the question on her voice mail. She
confirmed that the Windows model is indeed cheaper for retailers to buy
wholesale than the Linux model.
Well what can one say except that this is simply outrageous behavior on
the part of Asustek Australia. Treating Australian consumers like
dummies in a global marketplace is no way to win friends. In fact as
some of our posters have pointed out it’s a good way to lose customers.
No one likes to feel as though they’re getting ripped off. Bad form
Asustek, and just when everyone here were at the height of singing your
praises.
