And there's also "Maui," the new AMD home theatre platform Maui is planned for introduction in the fourth quarter of 2008. It is designed to integrate the devices needed to drive high definition (HD) televisions or displays from a nearly limitless variety of sources.

AMD say that Maui makes extensive use of the features of Microsoft Vista Home Premium or Ultimate editions.

This platform includes options for AVR class 7.1, 5.1 and 3.1 audio, HDTV tuning, plus the ability to play DVDs, Blu-ray discs, CDs, pictures and slide shows, internet content, on line movie rentals, as well as PC functions to let you work or play games.

Not content with the above slew of announcements, AMD revealed details on its next-generation mainstream notebook platform, codenamed "Tigris."

Tigris is set to include new 45nm dual- and single-core mobile processors, code named "Caspian," and upcoming RS880M and SB710 mobile chipsets. Expected in the second half of 2009, Tigris is expected to offer significant enhancements to the current AMD mainstream notebook platform, including improved HD video, 3D graphics, battery life and overall performance.

And looking further out, AMD also announced the 2010 mainstream notebook platform code named "Danube," which will feature the new "Champlain" CPU, the first quad-core processors offered by AMD specifically for the notebook market that also utilize DDR3 memory technology.

And even further out, in 2011 AMD plans to introduce the quad-core "Llano" APU for mainstream notebook and desktop platforms. APU (standing for "accelerated processing unit") is AMD's term for a CPU and graphics processor on one piece of silicon, which AMD expects will bring significant power savings to notebook computers.

AMD provided additional details on its server platform roadmap, planned to advance its trademark approach to platform longevity with maximum flexibility and customer choice.
