Firefox 2.0.0.8 woes with extensions continue for some

Opinion and Analysis

A few days ago I found that my Firefox browser's add-ons (extensions) all stopped working after version 2.0.0.8 automatically installed itself, and wrote about it under the heading of Beware: Major problems with add-ons caused by Firefox 2.0.0.8 update . A reader posted a sugested fix that worked for me, but unfortunately didn't for other ITWire readers. So, what to do?
Some people have tried a number of possible solutions, none of which solved their problem.

It's not only ITWire readers reporting suffering, of course. Take a look at the mozillZine forum youl'll see among the various Firefox bugs some posts such as 2.0.0.8 hoses extensions where the writer "drduish" comes to the conclusion that it "Seems like one of my extensions is somehow disabling ALL extensions."

Another suggested solution surfaces (above and beyond deleting the three files mentioned in the other article, that is). Look for a folder called staged-xpis and delete it. This didn't work for our drduish -- well, it didn't work the first day, but it DID work the next day, beat that! So drduish signs off with ths comment: "Gotta love it when software makes you look like an idiot. ... I stand by my claim that something screwy was introduced with 2.0.0.8."

I wish I could offer more suggestions for those unlucky people still in limbo, and can aonly encourage you to keep trying, and for those of you more versed in things Mozilla/FireFox please to continue providing tips.
