This position presents a Unique opportunity for an Infrastructure Support specialist with Strong Unix Administration AND Excellent Database (Sybase OR Oracle) skills to join a Dynamic, Expanding technology team of 10 and build a career in the financial services industry. You will be the Primary Contact for all UNIX and Database related communications.

The local Sydney operation totals approximately 120 staff, with hundreds more across Asia and is part of one of the world's largest global financial services organisations, therefore offering a wealth of medium and longer term career opportunities.

The technology team is split into Three main groups, Infrastructure, Application Support and the Helpdesk. This opportunity will see you work closely with the Infrastructure Lead responsible for supporting a wide range of technologies both locally and regionally. In addition, a variety of project initiatives are also forecast for the next 12 - 18 months.

Technical Environment:

* 40 - 50 servers Plus 1 - 2 test servers
* Solaris 8, 9, 10
* Sybase version 12.5
* Veritas Cluster Version 4.2
* RMDS - RATS Sun environment.

Duties include:

* Day to day 50% BAU operational work, support and administration of the Unix and Sybase environments + 50% project work
* Projects Include - A NEW Linux platform implementation, various deployments; Implementation of monitoring systems; Security standards; Capacity management; Other global initiatives.
* Ensure stability of Unix and Sybase platform, networks, clusters, netapps
* Capacity planning, backups for Unix and Database systems
* Some Sybase SQL server work + networks
* Member of Unix ⁄ Sybase global team and responsibility towards related hardware ⁄ software and application support.
* Contribute to long term system strategies in response to business requirements to chart future upgrade ? enhancements plans with direct report ? business leads.
* Required to have continual discussion with other Senior Unix ⁄ Sybase leads globally to ensure proposals, re-solutions are at an agreed standard.
* Administrate RMDS ⁄ RATS Sun environment.

Essential Skills:

* Solaris 8, 9, 10 Administration
* Database Administration, Management & Installation experience - RDBMS (Sybase 12.5 Preferred or Oracle )
* Shell scripting,
* Veritas Cluster Version 4.2

This is an environment where every second counts and a sense of urgency about your work should be instinctive.
