Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
However Dalby said iiNet had sought exemption to disclose the information because the $3.20 price would have a material impact on its business and it would required to do so under ASIC continuous disclosure rules. He added that Telstra had also revealed the information in its prospectus.
There could be further bad news for Telstra. The ACCC recently declared a wholesale line rental service (provision of Telstra dial tone to a customer, and according to Dalby the ACCC is looking at giving guidance on the price of just under $25 per month, compared to the price Telstra is current charging of around $30.
Dalby said that, if this and the $3.20 line sharing charge both came in the cost to an ISP to deliver dial tone to a customer and gain access to offer a DSL service would fall from around $39 per month currently to around $29. He added that this would give ISPs ample scope to compete with Telstra's current retail offering of $29.95 for a basic broadband service and between $18-$30 for dial tone (line rental).
