Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
With its new chairman, Chris Chapman, soon to take up his post the ACMA has unveiled a completely reworked corporate structure and has named three new general managers who will report to Chapman.
There are now five main divisions which will have responsibilities across all areas of the communications responsibilities: telecommunications, radiocommunications and broadcasting. These are corporate services; legal services, inputs to industry; industry outputs; strategy, analysis and co-ordination.
Dianne Carlos will head up ACMA's Corporate Services Division, Nerida O'Loughlin will lead its Industry Outputs Division and James Shaw will be in charge of the Strategy, Analysis & Coordination Division. They join Giles Tanner (general manager, Inputs to Industry Division) and Marcus Bezzi (head of Legal Division)
Carlos comes to the ACMA from the Australian Federal Police, where she has been CFO since May 2003. She was CFO at the Family Court of Australia (2001-03) and previously held executive positions with Medibank Private (1998-2001) and the Department of Employment, Education and Training.
O'Loughlin joins the ACMA from the Victorian Department of Infrastructure, where for the past five years she was director, Industry and Community Development, Multimedia Victoria. She has previously held senior management positions with the National Office for the Information Economy and the Department of Communications Information Technology and the Arts, where she was general manager licensed broadcasting (1999-2000) and held a range of positions involving digital television, film, arts and heritage. She was chief of staff for the Minister for the Arts and the Centenary of Federation in 1998-99, responsible for high level advice on portfolio matters.. Prior to this, she worked in a number of private and public sector organisations, including Austrade and Film Australia.
James Shaw has held the position of general manager strategy branch in the DCITA since October 2004. The branch is responsible for the Australian Government's strategic framework for the information economy. Prior to his position in DCITA he was a general manager and acting chief general manager in the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) from December 2002 to October 2004. From 1999 to 2002 he was adviser (and later senior adviser) telecommunications to the minister for communications, information technology and the arts, Richard Alston.
