New CEO for merged ETSA Telecoms and Powercor Telecom

Recently merged telcos ETSA Telecoms and Powercor Telecom have named Simon Perkins as CEO. He will take up his post in October and will be based in Melbourne. He has an "extensive career in telecommunications, including a long working history with British Telecom". More recently he has worked with Millicom International Cellular, a mobile phone joint venture operating in South East Asia, where he was regional president for South East Asia and with mobile operator Comvik International Vietnam where he was CEO.

ETSA Telecoms was formerly the telco arm of South Australian power utility ETSA and Powercor Telecom of Powercor in Victoria. Both parent utilities are owned by Cheong Kong Infrastructure of Hong Kong the largest (86 percent) shareholder in Hutchison Whampoa which, indirectly owns 46 percent of Hutchison 3G in Australia. A new name for the merged entity has yet to be chosen. Also included in the merged business are the telecoms assets of Citipower, another Victorian power utility owned by Cheong Kong.
