Optus adds 105,000 new mobiles

SingTel's regional mobile subscriber base grew to 71 million at the end of June, a quarterly increase of 6.3 million subscribers. Optus had 6.026 million mobile customers as at 30 June 2005, an addition of 105,000 customers during the quarter. This number is less than the 160,000 announced recently by Vodafone. More details will be provided in Optus' quarterly results, due to be announced tomorrow, August 4.

The SingTel result for the first time takes into account a new mobile associate - Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited (PBTL in which SingTel acquired a 45 percent equity stake in June 2005. PBTL had approximately 318,000 mobile customers as at 30 June 2005. The combined mobile subscriber base of SingTel, SingTel Optus and the Group's five regional associates grew 36 percent from about 52 million a year ago.
