Iomega aims new terabyte NAS unit at SOHO

IT Policy - Regulation

Iomega's StorCenter Pro NAS 150d server is aimed squarely at small business and home office users.

Available in 1T and 2T configurations, the 150d provides shared storage and a print server capable of handling up to four printers.

When configured as RAID 1 or 5, the drives are hot-swappable. A failed drive can be replaced without shutting down the server, and data is automatically copied onto the new drive. The 150d can also be configured as RAID 0 for maximum performance or JBOD (just a bunch of disks) for maximum capacity.

External hard drives can be connected via the 150d's four USB 2.0 interfaces.

Compared with Iomega's 1TB Gigabit Ethernet StorCenter Wireless Network Storage unit (which is aimed at the home market), the 150d lacks a wireless interface and UPnP AV media server capability.

The package includes a five-client licence for the Retrospect Express backup software for Windows and Mac. The server itself works with Windows, Mac and Linux clients.

Prices are $A1499/$US799 for the 1T model and $A2099/$US1349 for 2T.
